Description: City of the central area of Bolivia, near the river Rocha. It is 2.560 m of altitude and the foot of the hill Tunari. The local industry produces cotton garments, wool and skin, has a refinery of petroleum and an important production alfarera. The trade of cereals and of keno it is also important. The city constitutes the headquarters of the University of San Simon (1832). it was founded in 1574 as Villa of Oropesa, and in 1786 it was rebaptized with the current name. From 1847 it is Episcopal headquarters. Population (2008), 603.342 inhabitants.
